If you have a toothache, chances are you need a root canal. Toothaches are usually caused by bacteria reaching the nerve of your tooth, causing inflammation that squishes the nerve and is extremely painful!
And if you’re looking for a nearby dentist who can handle your root canal on the weekend, look no further! The Utah Weekend Dentist is here to take care of your tooth today! We’re open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays for your convenience!
So What Exactly is a Root Canal
This dental treatment is done when the nerve is either dying or already dead. When we treat your tooth, the dentist will get you numb first to make sure you don’t feel a thing. Once you’re numb, he’ll put a rubber dam over your teeth to protect them while he’s cleaning the nerve out. He uses files and special rinses to get the nerve tissue out of your tooth.
Once all the nerve tissue is removed, your dentist will replace the nerve with a rubbery material called gutta percha. It seals off the tooth and makes sure no more bacteria or cavities can work their way inside the tooth. Then he’ll put a filling on the tooth. After you get a root canal your tooth becomes much more brittle and likely to break since it no longer has blood vessels or nerves inside of it. That’s why in many cases, you’ll also need to get your tooth crowned after your root canal. Learn more here.
Is it Going to Be Painful?
Many people have heard that root canals are extremely painful. This is simply not true. If the reason you need a root canal is because you have a toothache, the toothache can be very painful. But before we start treatment, we get you nice and numb. Many of our patients actually fall asleep during the procedure because they’re numb and finally have some relief from the pain. It can take up to 90 minutes and is pretty boring, but not painful!
If you are looking for a dentist near you to do a root canal, Utah’s Weekend Dentist is happy to help! You can reach us at 801.215.9464 to book your appointment today! We do same day treatment and will fix your toothache the same day you come in for your exam!
